February 23 Sleep Protip: In fifty year's time, plural 's' will be replaced by plural 'z'- cars -> carz, etc. Also you can add extra z to indicated progressive plural: carzz is a set of group of cars, etc... Although initially a precise measurement of magnitude of plurality, extra zs will eventually come to mean alot in a larger and larger sense in non formal speech. January 16 mmm Every now and then I just buy a cake and a tub of ice cream and eat cake and ice cream for every meal for 2 days. I know I shouldn't, but I might as well do it now when I'm young and I don't put on weight, right? November 18 Glen, stop reading this I want to go to Unity '08 at the end of november. I don't think anyone I know is going. Sucks. Actually the only reason I want to go is cause I am waiting for xqlusive, ooommmmggg still another 31 days christ I wish time would go quicker. Look at those lazers, omg. October 22 Here we go again So someone says one tiny thing today and my massive streak of feeling great I've been on since transmission dies. Fucking great. I should be focusing on whats going well and looking forward to summer, rather than dwelling on shit when I don't even know what I want. Hmpf. Oh, and I can't write what I want because of the off chance someone reads this. Also I'm thinking of getting a new computer. MSY says you can get a 500gb Hard drive for $77. What the hell... how is that legal? (MSY: it probably isn't) September 28 Rules for a rave 1. At some point in the night, derb will be played. 2. Everybody present will enjoy derb. Thats about it. September 27 We've already lost control It's pretty amazing to take a moment and look at where the world is heading (yeah, it's going to be one of those blog posts). It's pretty goddamned amazing how far the world has come in say, the last 100 or even 50 years. I really wonder about whether the trends which we are seeing today are going to continue or whether they will get to a point, and/or reverse. Like, in the past 100 years the world has become as a whole amazingly more liberal and open minded. You get to the point where in western societies these days being racist or sexist is pretty unacceptable. Granted, you can find lots of counter examples but the general trend has been an amazing one towards tolerance, at least in public. As the older generations die off we're getting to the point where the people running the world are ones who have always grown up in an environment where discrimination is considered unacceptable. You always hear about the how the internet is this amazing tool for communication and how now knowledge and ideas can move so quickly and freely around the world, but you never really think about it or consider it, because its old people intellectual hippie bullshit you don't care about it, facebook facebook facebook. But it really is pretty damn amazing, the way people can communicate these days. And its not ever going to go away or become less so in the foreseeable future. The world is becoming this ultra connected, evenly distributed society where pockets of society who don't want to mix are not going to be able to last much longer, or last in the same form as before. Still, it's interesting to consider whether the current trend towards liberalization is going to keep going, or whether people will react against it and all it's facets - freedom of thought, sexual freedom, movements away from traditional organized religion. Shit, even the last one is an amazing thought by itself- what happens if the human race just eventually gives up religion? Would that prove anything? We are really only at the very beginning of the information age, and I can't wait to see what society is like by the time I'm at the end of my life, even in a non technological way (which I think is ultimately more interesting than the technological advances that will come). So yeah, what got me thinking about all of this was software freedom day. Despite what I say, I really like open source software (although I think people need to be harsher on it to highlight it's shortcomings so it improves... but that's a topic for another time). It's really the closest thing to communism there is in practice. Don't believe me? Open source is like communism, except more radical: not only does everyone get paid the same amount, but that amount is zero. You don't get your position in an open source community from owning capital, or luck, but by displaying your skills and contributing to the project. The people in the project decide where it goes, which relates to workplace democracy and the workers themselves deciding what they produce. Imagine open source as a model for how industry would work in a communist society (granted software engineering is a little different to most industries; but most people in the know would consider software engineering one of the hardest things to consistently do right, so if it works in the hardest conditions, thats a pretty good reference)- people are generally free to choose what they work on. You still have leaders and people shaping the project, but everyone has a say in where it is going, and those leaders are chosen by contribution to the project. This blog entry didn't turn out anywhere near as well as I had hoped. September 06 Bored I am bored. I can't find anything to do on the internet. But I don't want to go to bed. So I think I'll just start writing and see what happens. I've had such a goddamned busy and stressful week (ref: previous post). Glad that most of the critical stuff has been resolved, although I do have a stack of stuff left on my todo list, and a few extra ones I didn't have a few days ago. Felt really good to do absolutely nothing tonight and get some well earned rest. Also going to be goddamned sweet to be able to sleep in tomorrow for the first time since like, Sunday. Can you believe that! An entire working week of not being able to sleep in. What the fuck. So, it turns out by writing is really fuck boring when I don't have some specific clever or interesting topic to write about. Sucks. So like, politics. Iemma got chucked out as premier today by the labor government today. I'm not that impressed... as easy as it is to point to all the shit going wrong with the state government at the moment, none of it is Iemma's fault. He seemed like such a sensible guy. It's really quite a dilemma (Ho, I could have made a joke out of that). I don't know if I could ever bring myself to vote liberal, but I also like to think I vote for the best objective candidate, not whom I like subjectively (which is what I think is wrong with democracy, because the vast majority of people can't think objectively and are fuckwits, and so vote for person X because he has whiter teeth than the other guy). So I have to say it seems as though the liberals deserve a chance running the state. However the problem to me doesn't seem to be with corruption within the government (which, although it exists, seems to be a bit overblown or mainly exist on a council level). It's a problem with the public sector as a whole. Part of that problem is that unions have too much power. Mind you, I'm very pro union in general, but I think they really are like feminists. They are coming from the right place and they are working to right things which are still wrong, but they seem to be less about equality and more about just gaining what they want. Unions supossedly "protect workers rights" but in reality just want to gain as much as they can. Which, when you have no rights, is the same thing, but once society gives you concessions and your plight really isnt that bad anymore, and you keep trying to push it further, people turn against you (like people have turned against the feminist movement post mid 80's). What this all boils down to and why the situation looks so hopeless to me is the whole fiasco over privatising the state's electricty business. Firstly, any sensible person knows this pretty much has to be done. It is going to require an ungodly amount of investment to keep up with the infastructure needed to support our growing population, and unless you want more taxes, it's just going to have to be privatised. The unions have too much power and make things too ineffecient here. Of course the unions then don't want it privatised and used their clout in the labor party to nuke the deal and ultimately give Iemma the flick. The thing that really shits me is that the fucking scum liberals were the ones who voted against it in parliament. This is just fucking stupidity. On any normal day, the liberals would be the ones pushing for it to be privatised and labor would be opposing it. Having a sensible labor leader pushing for privatisation was a rare chance to solve a big problem this state was facing, and what the fuck. The liberals of course knew the pressure was on Iemma and so opposed him for the sake of opposing him and get him sacked, rather than doing what was right and voting for the legisation which utimately is going to have to be passed somehow. And so we see, the state liberals aren't any better. They are willing to put aside what needs to be done for the chance to get back at labor, and so I really can't say with any confidence that replacing one set of wankers with another set is going to solve any fucking problems. Lastly, I find it hard to be enthused to change our state government when theres no objective reference for the supposed problems we are having. Everyone harps on about cityrail but honestly, I never have any problems with it. Same with health. Out budget had a $376 million surplus last year (yum yum gst monies) and fuck, I can't help but feel that for all the scandals and shit in the paper that this really isnt a bad place to live. I fucking love this city. Another thing that shits me: Governments using budget money to advertise projects they are doing, but in effect drumming up support for themselves under the guise of "informing" people. Some stupid ad on tv today about how they are building the new metro link. Um, ok? What, do you need our fucking approval? We don't need to goddamned know about it yet (since they said they are going ahead with it, they are not in the asking for ideas stage), just build the fucking thing. Of course this isnt a state labor thing, it's accepted practice for everyone to do it (remember the unchain my heart liberal propoganda regarding the GST?). I hate it when something that shouldn't be acceptable to any normal person becomes so because everyone does it. Blah blah blah. September 02 TodoThings I need to do in the next 10 days: Submit my application for housing before next monday, do my tax return, do my IT security assignment by next friday, do my info assignment by this friday, do algorithms assignment by thursday, do bioinformations abstract by tomorrow and start the assignment this week, study for my HCI quiz which is on thursday, finish the LP project by september and get a pilot out there, fix the valency site before the IE users kill me, continue databases work (another meeting on friday), do some organising for astrofact tomorrow, get my work timesheets in for the past month, congratulate my brother on getting engaged, congratulate brit on getting married, write a letter to a friend, ring my grandmother, go out drinking thursday night, possibly go out drinking friday night, go to my house mate's birthday thing on saturday, go to PHD vs Masif on saturday night, organise people going to transmission on 27th this month, organise meeting up for gelmetti's farewell on the 20th of this month, meet my parents sometime this weekend in between being trashed and wasted and clean up my fucking room. Not to mention things I'd like to have more free time to actually enjoy: Serious time to practice my mixing and my scratching, spend some good time improving my production skills and working with moe on a collab song, read a few books I've been meaning to finish, subscribe to time and/or a newspaper and start reading news again, exercise more and/or join a sports club (Maybe soccer or table tennis). I want to curl up in a ball and die right now for various reasons but I don't think I have time to do that either. August 30 Well Random thought found while googling (which I wish I could claim as my own): "There really must be something to this shit ... Do more people find inner peace at supermarkets or at raves? If there were 5000 people who thought the produce section was truly a mind blowing cosmic fucking place to be would Safeway not have the same cultish draw and underground mystique? " August 22 In da hood So I had to go to the laundromat today. I've been using the laundromat alot more recently rather than doing my own washing, cause it's alot quicker (my usual method of washing my clothes is to wait until everything is dirty and I have nothing to wear, and then wash everything so speed actually matters when I have to go somewhere that requires me to be clothed, which is almost everywhere in this crazy modern world) and more convenient (don't have to worry about it raining), and not actually that expensive (like $8 a wash or something.. I can deal with that each week). So anyway I did actually have alot of clothes clean today, but I did not have one vital piece of clothing clean: my clubbing hoodie. Now you might look at a whole group of people going to a rave or clubbing and think that their wardrobe was simply put together from what was lying on their floor that morning, but I can assure you a good hoodie is an essential and sentimental part of your outfit. There are many factors to consider. You don't want something that is too warm, because of course things get hot pretty quickly. However, being winter, you need something that can keep you warm outside for up to 30 odd minutes for breaks in the freezing cold. It needs to be distinctive, so that if you take it off when dancing you can easily recognise and claim it later. Not to mention that as your primary piece of clothing you want it to look cool, or unique, or tell something about you. Some people use a hoodie from their favorite event (I am still regretting I didn't buy a Q-Dance hoodie), or favorite production team, DJ, etc, giving a point of conversation with other people who like those things. Of course nobody has just a single outfit they would wear out, but everyone has their favorite, and associated with it all the great memories that came with it: Your first rave, the first time you peaked, the time you shook hands with your favorite producer, the best sets from the best european DJ's, the awesome lazers, the crazy light shows that you lose yourself in... your hoodie is like a friend to you, with you in all your best times and during all the worst- By your side when the Prophet drops Just like You by SMD at Q-Dance, sticking around when you're vomiting in the toilet at the end of a night. Except, unlike other supposed 'friends', your hoodie doesnt FUCKING SMEAR CAKE IN YOUR FAVORITE GODDAMIT OUTFIT. And so here we are. August 06 ZooneSo I finally got my Zune today! Very exciting
stuff. So of course there was no way I was going to buy an ipod, and
although I sort of was interested in a Zune I didn't think I would be able to
buy one for a number of reasons. Didn't know if they had been released in
Australia yet,
thought they might be too pricey, and of course the first generation Zune was
an ugly piece of shit. Although the second generation looked pretty cool. August 03 Why so unserious? I'm really happy right now, and I have no fucking idea why. What the fuck. July 25 Can't think of a title So I'm back from skiing. Ski trip was awesome, and all that. Can't really be bothered writing up a summary of it. Just wanted to say how orgasmic it is to be back at home with my sound system listening to my own music again. Mixer with bass set to +12db, hardstyle blaring, kick pumping- doesn't get any better. It's scary how good this music is. July 05 The midas touch Isn't it a sign of our times that the "Midas touch" is seen as something positive, something to be desired? Wasn't midas the overly greedy man who in the end could not have any enjoyment or fulfillment in his life because of his greed? I think it's a pretty accurate reflection on us that we view giving up everything else in the world for the pursuit of wealth to the detriment of everything else in our lives a good thing. June 25 Free to runSo the other day my dad was down here, which means we went shopping, so I have quite a bit of decent food. So I'm eating well at the moment. Tonight I cooked up some chicken and fried some vegetables, and sat down to enjoy a pretty tasty meal. I thought, hey, I'll turn on the TV, and it won't be that great, but it will be mindless entertainment that will keep me amused while I eat my tasty meal, and I'll be reminded of why TV is great. But there was only crap on TV. Well fuck, you just lost your chance there buddy. Back to the internet for me. There was however this show on firefighters (doco). They were trying to put out some fire in a building and they are talking to the owner, something along the lines of: "So, whats the roof made out of" (The roof is burning up and collapsing all around) "um... asbestos..." "... FUCK" Somewhat related, I love the smell that matches make when you light them. I think its the phosphurus or something. Its so great. I have a box of matches in my room and I just sit there lighting match after match, enjoying the awesome smell of whatever chemical it is. I took the battery out of my fire alarm, so I don't have to worry about it. I picture myself accidentally setting something on fire as a result of me playing around with matches, and then burning to death because there is no fire alarm with a battery to alert other people of what is going on : ( I think the limiting factor stopping anyone from being a pyromaniac is the sense of responsibility and consequences, not the fact that people don't enjoy lighting fires. I mean, if there were no consequences, some people might be inclined to murder people. But not everyone. Lots of people would find it disgusting. Same, more people than currently do would steal without any consequences for them. But alot of people would still feel it immoral. But, given no consequences and no harm to other people, ANYBODY would be a pyromaniac. Everyone loves burning shit. Its universal. I guess fire was the most amazing and useful invention to our pseudo-monkey ancestors, and so we're just conditioned to revere it as such. Listening to kyuss at the moment. I think I'm sort of swinging back to listening to a bit of rock thesedays. For the last three months I've been obsessed with listening to trance. And well, its not that I'm getting sick of it, I think I'm just learning to balance my listening. Different types of music are good for different situations. Hardstyle trance being the epic get pysched up inspirational uplifting sort of music. Rock in general is more chillout enjoyable sort of music. Classical music is background but rewards you for listening and is more complex. Oh also, I forgot how great incubus are. I was really happy with how my maths exam went to today. I think the exam for what I knew when I went into the exam was about the easiest I could possibly expect. I mean, usually you think you have a pretty good grasp of the course, and then you go into the exam and get fucked over by things which you don't know quite well enough to get full marks, and you're sort of like hrm. But wow, today I could do pretty much everything, and I was really confident for at least 80% of it. I think a distinction in this course is actually within my reach. HD in isys, HD in comp, D in maths and Pass first year math- wouldnt that be something? I really don't deserve it. I'm excited about holidays. I'm excited about suits camp, I'm mega excited about skiing. I'm excited about next semester, I'm doing 30 credit points but all of my subjects look pretty damn interesting. Fuck my life is cruising along. When you're in high school, you sort of get used to hate going to school (or at least dislike at some level). Same when you graduate and get a job. At the moment I'm enjoying everything, uni, holidays, and its offputting because I'm expecting to have some bland majority of my life which is necessary but not enjoyable, and it just isn't there. Sweet, I guess. June 24 12345Whenever I see that the time is 12:34, I think the clock is lying to me because it can't be bothered finding out what the time really is. "Hey, whats the time there?" "um... uh... one two, three four" "fuck you clock." June 19 Gangsta sql SELECT COUNT( *) FROM dudes WHERE KNOW_HOW_TO_ROLL_LIKE_THIS IS NOT NULL; SQL returned Not many, if any rows May 31 SUB SONIC SOUNDS So I had isys assignment due last tuesday. It was meant to be groups of 4 or 5 but since myself and cat are retards (I suppose me moreso because she actually did other things beforehand and did an alright final job) we didnt get organized and find other people to do the assignment with us. So yeah, yay for doing twice as much of fag assignment then I should be doing. Of course I left 80% of the work to the night before, and procrastinated by jotting down my thoughts at various times during the long, long night (all times am, obviously). 1:55: I've had like 3 cans so far of Coles brand energy drink. Its actually called "You'll love coles zu energy". "You'll Love coles x" is actually a registered trademark, according to the bottle. You know you're consuming some quality shit when coles is instructing you to love it. IT says to only consume a maximum of 2 per day, but I started drinking it before midnight, so I think technically I'll be having 4 over 2 days. It was only $5ish, how could I afford not to. Listening to awesome jumpstyle mix of somewhere over the rainbow. 1:58 I havent started referencing either. I want to find some middle office IT worker and punch them. 2:02: "Cause you never can tell, there just might be a gremlin in your house." Thanks for that noisecontrollers. Seems like some sort of drug reference, suprise. 2:03: YOU'LL LOVE YOUR FOURTH CAN OF ZU ENERGY. SWEET, SWEET CAFFEINATED LOVE. 2:04: Now noisecontrollers are trying to rap. Come on, you guys are white. FROM HOLLAND. PRODUCING TRANCE. Please knock it off, seriously. 2:08: Spent the last 2 minutes staring at kurt cobain. srsly. 2:15: Lol, disseminated. What an awesome word. 2:16: Oh, is that some karma by the pitcher playing? Fuck I love this song. 2:29: Peter distracted me with some 4chan related lulz. 2:50: Talking hardstyle politics with moe. Why oh why is nitrouz playing at defqon 1?? And why the hell did luna and deepack get chosen to produce the defqon 1 2008 anthem, this is crap. 2:53: Wow this song is REALLY crap. Its almost jumpstyle. HEY HEY WE HAVE KICK. HUUUUR WHAT IS MELODY. HUUUUR I AM DJ LUNA 2:59: Lol, person I have never met also thinks dj likquid is a tool. 3:00: OMG ITS THAT TIME OF NIGHT STAY VERY STILL 3:01: Thank god thats over. 3:01: omfg isys 3:07: Listening to zatox mix of glorification. Zatox is coming to australia! And playing on the 19th of july, the night before I have to leave extra early to go to the snow :( :( :( :( :( 3:08: But this song is so epic. Maybe i'll just stay up all that night. 3:11: "Research has previously proven that exposure to low frequency sound can cause a variety of physiological effects, many of them adverse ones, such as shivering, anxiety and breathlessness. We're coming for you..." Thanks for that, headhunterz. 3:12: Wow, apparently that line is from a scientific paper linking low frequency sounds with various religious phenomenon. The things google + music teach you. 3:19: "The intention of our minds is powerful.... and a curse. Explore the power of the mind..." 3:58: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr grinding my way through this 3:59: "I AM THE ONE WHO CONTROLS THE BLADE. YOU BEST GO WITH THE FLOW, FOR RESISTANCE IS FUTILE... IT MERELY SHARPENS THE BLADE." yeah yeah brennan heart. 4:07: "Hardstyyyyyle is coming cloooooser, cause blutoooonium boy issss aalll ooooooover yooouuuuuuuuuuuuuu". epic song. 4:08: One page to go. Come on. 4:21: Downloaded "Remember remember" by brennan heart. HURRR I AM GARETH HOW TO ASSIGNMENT 4:37: AAAAAARGEHWRGWEJHRGJWEHR 5:25: Yeah, onto referencing.. Fuck yeah google scholar 5:40: Dubios. What a great name for a source. 6:03: Holy fuck, I think I might be close to finished. Reading over it now. 6:21: WHAT THE FUCK DIAGRAM AREH 6:22: "If you're having girl troubles I feel bad for you son; I've got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one". Alpha Twins lend some insight. 6:35: FUCKING FINISHED Oh dear. |
